Hill Country Events Update: Late August 2026 Through the Holidays

Steve Giannone .
Canyon Lake at golden hour with turquoise water, limestone cliffs, live oaks, and a dock with a boat

I went through the event calendars again this week across every community I serve in the Hill Country. Some annual traditions have released their 2026 dates, a few new events have appeared, and a handful of shows at Gruene Hall are worth mentioning while tickets are still available. I wanted to share what I found while there is still time to plan.

This update adds ten events I confirmed this week that have not appeared in our earlier guides: Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers and Scotty Alexander at Gruene Hall, the Mermaids Tea at Holiday Harbor on Canyon Lake, the Howl at the Moon Dance Party at Blue Hole in Wimberley, Creed Fisher and Casey Donahew at Gruene Hall, the Cavern Bat Fest at Natural Bridge Caverns, the Weihnachtsmarkt German Christmas Market in New Braunfels, Santa's Ranch drive-through holiday lights, and the North Pole Village at the CRRC in Canyon Lake.

If you have been following the site, you have seen our earlier event guides covering summer through the end of 2026. This edition is the freshest batch of events I have confirmed, focused on what is coming up between now and the holidays. A few of these are annual traditions that had not announced their dates when I last checked, so I am glad to have them on the site now. As always, I recommend checking official event pages before you head out, since dates and times can shift.

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers at Gruene Hall

August 21, 2026 8 PM (doors typically open earlier) Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Rd, New Braunfels

One of the best live acts in Americana music returns to Texas' oldest dance hall. Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers bring their signature blend of desert rock, folk, and southwestern storytelling to the Gruene Hall stage. This is the kind of show that makes the Hill Country music scene what it is — a legendary venue, cold drinks, and a crowd that knows the words. Gruene Hall is a short drive from Canyon Lake and Wimberley, and pairing the show with dinner at the Gristmill overlooking the Guadalupe River makes for a perfect Hill Country evening.

Scotty Alexander at Gruene Hall

August 22, 2026 8 PM (doors typically open earlier) Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Rd, New Braunfels

Texas country artist Scotty Alexander brings his high-energy show to Gruene Hall for a Saturday night. Alexander has been building a following across Texas with his honky-tonk sound and live performance style. Gruene Hall on a Saturday night in late August is about as Hill Country as it gets — the breeze off the Guadalupe River, the historic wooden dance floor, and the kind of crowd that comes to listen and dance. Tickets usually sell well for weekend shows at Gruene Hall, so grab them early if you are interested.

This is the kind of low-key, family-friendly community gathering that defines lake living. If you are new to Canyon Lake or thinking about a move, this is a wonderful way to see what the community is like on a Saturday morning — relaxed, welcoming, and centered around the lake.

A free community event at Wimberley's beloved Blue Hole Regional Park. Families gather on the lawn as the sun goes down for dancing under the moonlight, with a group howl at 8:30 PM that echoes through the cypress trees along the creek. September is one of the best months in the Hill Country, and a Saturday night at Gruene Hall — with the historic walls, the cold beer, and the live music — is the kind of evening that reminds you why people love this area. Casey Donahew at Gruene Hall

October 2–3, 2026 8 PM both nights Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Rd, New Braunfels

Texas country star Casey Donahew plays two nights at Gruene Hall, and both shows are likely to sell out. Donahew is one of the most popular live acts in Texas country music, with a catalog that spans two decades and a stage presence that fills dance halls across the state. Two nights at Gruene Hall means two very different crowds and two very good shows. October in the Hill Country is about as good as weather gets anywhere — cool evenings, golden afternoons, and the Guadalupe River running alongside the venue. If you have never seen a show at Gruene Hall, this is a good one to start with.

A weekly October tradition at one of Texas' most remarkable natural attractions. The caverns offer educational talks, family activities, and twilight tours of the caverns before the main event. New Braunfels' German heritage shines during the holidays, and this market is one of the best examples. Family-friendly and free to enter, it is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. A drive-through holiday light experience on a 110-acre ranch in New Braunfels. Over two million lights create animated displays, tunnels of light, and holiday scenes along a winding drive-through course. Families stay in their cars and tune the radio to holiday music as they wind through the displays. Santa's Ranch has become a Hill Country holiday tradition, drawing families from across the region. November evenings in the Hill Country are crisp and clear, and the lights stretch across the ranch in every direction. If you have family coming to town for Thanksgiving weekend, this is a perfect evening activity.

Making the Most of Late Summer, Fall, and the Holidays

A few things I have learned from nearly four decades in Central Texas that might help you plan the next few months:

  • Late August is still warm, but the evenings are changing. The Gruene Hall shows in August are evening affairs, which helps. By late September and October, the weather is about as good as anyplace in the country — cool mornings, warm afternoons, and evenings that need a light jacket.
  • Gruene Hall shows sell out. Weekend shows at Texas' oldest dance hall are popular, especially for established acts like Casey Donahew and Roger Clyne. Buy tickets online in advance if you can. The venue is small and intimate, which is part of the magic, but it also means shows fill up fast.
  • Canyon Lake community events are worth the trip. The Mermaids Tea and North Pole Village are both the kind of community-driven events that define lake living. If you are considering a move to Canyon Lake, these are perfect opportunities to meet neighbors and see what the community is like.
  • The Cavern Bat Fest is a hidden gem. Natural Bridge Caverns is one of the most impressive natural attractions in the Hill Country, and the Saturday bat emergences in October are free with cavern admission. It is family-friendly, educational, and the drive there through the Hill Country in October is beautiful.
  • Holiday events book up early. Santa's Ranch and Weihnachtsmarkt both draw strong crowds. If you have family coming to town for Thanksgiving, put Santa's Ranch on the calendar early. Weihnachtsmarkt is free and family-friendly, perfect for a Saturday afternoon stroll through a German Christmas market.
  • Make a weekend of it. Pair a Gruene Hall show with dinner at the Gristmill and a walk through the historic district. Combine Howl at the Moon with a hike at Blue Hole earlier in the afternoon. Turn Weihnachtsmarkt into a full New Braunfels holiday weekend with Wassailfest the following week.
  • Use events to explore a community you are considering. If you are thinking about a move to Canyon Lake, Wimberley, New Braunfels, or anywhere in the Hill Country, attending a local event tells you more about a community than any website can. You will see how people interact, what they value, and whether it feels like home.

"The Hill Country has a way of bringing people together — at dance halls, at holiday markets, at community teas, and around backyard tables. If you are thinking about making this area home, come spend a weekend here. You will understand why people do not leave."
