Hill Country Events Update: Late Summer 2026
I went through the event calendars again this week across every community I serve, and found several events I had not seen before. Some are brand new this year, others are annual traditions I missed on earlier passes. I wanted to get them on the site so you can plan ahead.
This update is focused on events that are either brand new to 2026 or that I had not included in our previous event guides: Hardy at Whitewater Amphitheater, the Austin PRIDE Festival and Parade, the Full Moon Cruise on Canyon Lake, Maui Sunday at the Lodge, the New Braunfels Latin Food Fest, the first-ever Wimberley Chili Cook-Off and Music Fest, the San Marcos Harvest Festival, The Romantics at Canyon Lake Lodge, the Texas Book Festival in Austin, and Las Posadas on the San Antonio River Walk.
If you have been following along, you have probably seen our earlier guides covering events from summer through the end of 2026. This edition adds a fresh batch of events that I confirmed this week, with the most current information I could find. As always, I recommend checking official event pages before you head out, since dates and times can shift.
Hardy at Whitewater Amphitheater
Country rocker Hardy brings his tour to one of the best outdoor venues in the Hill Country. Whitewater sits right on the Guadalupe River between New Braunfels and Canyon Lake, with a covered stage and a big lawn under the oaks. Late August evenings along the river are warm but the breeze off the water helps. This show will draw a crowd, so tickets may go fast.
More DetailsAustin PRIDE Festival & Parade
Central Texas' largest LGBTQ+ celebration, drawing over 200,000 people to downtown Austin. The parade marches down Congress Avenue and the festival at Fiesta Gardens features live music, food vendors, and community resources all day. For Hill Country residents, this is one of those events that reminds you why living within an hour of Austin is such an advantage — you get the quiet of lake or small-town life with world-class city events a short drive away.
More DetailsFull Moon Cruise — Sturgeon Moon on Canyon Lake
A Canyon Lake tradition that captures exactly why people choose lake living. Board a pontoon cruise on Canyon Lake under the August full moon — the Sturgeon Moon. Boats depart from Holiday Harbor Dock and spend a couple of hours on the water as the sun sets and the moon rises over the hills. This is the kind of evening that makes you slow down and appreciate where you live. Tickets typically sell out, so I would book ahead if you are interested.
More DetailsMaui Sunday — Canyon Lake Lodge
An annual Canyon Lake community tradition with a Hawaiian theme. The Canyon Lake Lodge puts on a themed menu, food vendors, and a relaxed lakeside afternoon that brings residents together. It is the kind of low-key, family-friendly community event that defines the Canyon Lake lifestyle. September in the Hill Country starts to cool off, making it one of the best months to be on or near the lake.
More DetailsNew Braunfels Latin Food Fest
A celebration of Latin American cuisine in New Braunfels, featuring food vendors, live music, and a festival atmosphere. New Braunfels has a deep Mexican-American heritage that goes back generations, and this festival showcases the food and culture that are part of the fabric of this community. Easy drive from Canyon Lake and San Marcos.
More Details1st Annual Wimberley Chili Cook-Off & Music Fest
A brand-new Wimberley tradition in its first year. Chili competition, live music, and community gathering at Willow Lake Watering Hole & Mercantile — one of the most charming Hill Country venues around. October in Wimberley is about as good as it gets: cool mornings, golden afternoons, and the kind of relaxed small-town atmosphere that makes people fall in love with this community. If you have been thinking about a move to Wimberley, this is the weekend to come see it.
More DetailsSan Marcos Harvest Festival
A one-day community festival in San Marcos with artisans, crafters, local businesses, food vendors, and family activities. Up to 15,000 people attend, making it one of the larger community events in the area. San Marcos is an easy drive from both Canyon Lake and Wimberley, and the downtown square is one of the most walkable in the Hill Country.
More DetailsThe Romantics — Concerts at the Lodge
High-energy new-wave rock from The Romantics — the band behind "What I Like About You" and "Talking in Your Sleep" — coming to Canyon Lake Lodge as part of the POA's 2026 concert series. This is the kind of show that brings the Canyon Lake community together for a night of music right on the lake. November evenings in the Hill Country are cool and clear, and the Lodge setting makes for a great concert night.
More DetailsTexas Book Festival — Austin
The 31st annual Texas Book Festival at the State Capitol in Austin. Author presentations, panel discussions, book signings, cooking demonstrations, a kids' activity area, and the Saturday night Lit Crawl through downtown bars and venues. Free and open to the public. For Hill Country residents who love to read — and that describes a lot of people in Wimberley and the Hill Country — this is a perfect November weekend. Austin is an easy drive from anywhere in the region.
More DetailsLas Posadas on the San Antonio River Walk
A beautiful San Antonio holiday tradition. Las Posadas re-creates Mary and Joseph's journey with a river barge procession, live music, traditional songs, and cultural performances along the River Walk. The barges are decorated with lights, and the riverbanks fill with families carrying candles. This is one of those events that reminds you why San Antonio is such a special city. For Hill Country residents, it is an easy evening drive and a wonderful way to start the holiday season.
More DetailsMaking the Most of the Rest of Summer and the Start of Fall
A few things I have learned from nearly four decades in Central Texas:
- Late August is still warm. The Full Moon Cruise and Hardy at Whitewater are both evening events, which helps. Bring water, dress light, and enjoy the breeze off the water. By late September and October, the weather is about as good as anywhere in the country.
- Weekend events draw a crowd. Austin PRIDE and the Texas Book Festival both pull big numbers. Arrive early, plan for parking, and give yourself extra time.
- Canyon Lake events sell out. The Full Moon Cruise and Concerts at the Lodge are popular with the POA community. Tickets go fast for the cruises especially.
- Make a weekend of it. Several of these events pair well with a Hill Country road trip. Combine the Wimberley Chili Cook-Off with a drive through the Blanco River valley. Pair the Texas Book Festival with lunch on South Congress. Turn Las Posadas into a River Walk evening with dinner and lights.
- Use events to explore a community you are considering. If you are thinking about a move to Canyon Lake, Wimberley, New Braunfels, or anywhere in the Hill Country, attending a local event tells you more about a community than any website can. You will see how people interact, what they value, and whether it feels like home.
- San Antonio and Austin are close enough for a night out. One of the things I hear most from clients who relocate here is how much they love being able to drive into either city for an evening event and be back home in the quiet of the Hill Country within the hour. Austin PRIDE, the Texas Book Festival, and Las Posadas are all worth the drive.
"The Hill Country has a way of bringing people together — at markets, at music halls, at holiday lightings, and around backyard tables. If you are thinking about making this area home, come spend a weekend here. You will understand why people do not leave."

If you want help finding the right community — or you are curious about what daily life looks like in Canyon Lake, Wimberley, New Braunfels, San Marcos, San Antonio, Austin, or anywhere in the Hill Country — I am always happy to talk. After nearly four decades here, I have a pretty good sense of what fits.
