Hill Country Events: Late Summer & Fall 2026 Update

Steve Giannone .
Texas Hill Country late summer evening with string lights in a live oak tree and rolling hills

I just went through the event calendars for late summer and fall 2026 across the communities I serve, and there is a lot happening between now and the end of the year. I wanted to share what I found because the best way to understand the Hill Country is to get out and experience it.

This update focuses on events that are either new to the schedule or happening in the next few months — the ones I think would interest someone who is already here or thinking about making the move. I have also included a few San Antonio and Austin events, because one of the best things about Hill Country living is having both cities within an easy drive.

If you have been following the site, you may have seen our earlier event guides. This one adds several new events I confirmed this week: Hudson Westbrook at Whitewater Amphitheater, SMTX Pride in San Marcos, Muertos Fest at Hemisfair, the Canyon Lake BBQ Cook-Off, the Art Squared Arts Market in San Marcos, Pumpkin Nights in Austin, Diwali SA Festival of Lights, the Ford Holiday River Parade, the Austin Trail of Lights, and the Canyon Lake Guild Concert Series. I have kept only the best of what is still ahead and let everything else make room for the new calendar.

Hudson Westbrook at Whitewater Amphitheater

August 15, 2026 7:30 PM Whitewater Amphitheater, 11860 FM 306, New Braunfels

Texas country artist Hudson Westbrook brings his rising sound to one of the Hill Country's best outdoor venues. Whitewater Amphitheater sits on the Guadalupe River just minutes from Canyon Lake, with a covered stage and a big lawn where you can spread out under the oaks. This is exactly the kind of summer evening that makes living here worthwhile — a cool river breeze, live music, and a crowd that feels like neighbors even if you have never met them. Tickets typically sell well for shows at this venue, so I would grab them early if you are interested.

It is an easy drive from Canyon Lake, Wimberley, and New Braunfels — the kind of event that reminds you the Hill Country is for everyone.

Five stages of live music, dance performances, a colorful procession, art workshops, an altar contest, and food from local vendors. This is Muertos Fest's 14th year, and it keeps getting bigger. The setting in Hemisfair Park, steps from the River Walk and the Tower of the Americas, makes it easy to spend the whole weekend exploring San Antonio. Planning Your Hill Country Fall

If you are new to Central Texas or just visiting for the season, here is what I have learned about making the most of late summer and fall:

  • August and early September are still warm. Evening events are your best bet. By late September, the weather turns and October is about as good as it gets anywhere. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, and evenings that need a light jacket.
  • Holiday events book up early. The Ford Holiday River Parade and Austin Trail of Lights both draw big crowds. Make reservations when they open and plan for parking.
  • Pair events with a meal. Many of these events are in walkable areas with great restaurants nearby. Make a day of it — lunch on a patio, browse the market, catch the evening show.
  • Use events to explore a community. If you are considering a move to Canyon Lake, Wimberley, New Braunfels, or anywhere in the Hill Country, I cannot recommend a better way to get a feel for a place than attending a local event. You will see how people interact, what they value, and whether it feels like home.
  • San Antonio and Austin are close enough. One of the things I hear most from clients who relocate here is how much they love being able to drive into either city for an evening event and be back home in the quiet of the Hill Country within the hour.

"The Hill Country has a way of bringing people together — at markets, at music halls, at holiday lightings, and around backyard tables. If you are thinking about making this area home, come spend a weekend here. You will understand why people do not leave."
