Hill Country Events Update: Mid-August Through 2026

Steve Giannone .
Canyon Lake evening with families on a dock, string lights, and golden sunset reflecting on the water

I went through the event calendars again this week across every community I serve in the Hill Country, and found a solid batch of new events that I had not included in our previous guides. Some are annual traditions I picked up on a second pass, others are brand new to the calendar. I wanted to get them on the site while there is still time to plan.

This update focuses on events that are mostly brand new to the site: Cars & Coffee at Sierra Park in Canyon Lake, Austin Bat Fest, the Levitation music festival in Austin, the Peddle/Paddle Regatta on Canyon Lake, the Harborfest Pink Floyd tribute concert at Holiday Harbor, the Monarch Butterfly & Pollinator Festival in San Antonio, the Barbacoa and Big Red Festival at Hemisfair Park, the Prince tribute concert at Canyon Lake Lodge, the Wimberley Trail of Lights at the EmilyAnn Theatre, and the Canyon Lake Parade of Lights. A few of these run through the holiday season, so mark your calendars early.

If you have been following the site, you may have seen our earlier event guides covering summer through the end of 2026. This edition adds ten newly confirmed events that I had not caught on earlier passes. As always, I recommend checking official event pages before you head out, since dates and times can shift.

Cars & Coffee — Canyon Lake

September 6, 2026 4 PM – 8 PM Sierra Park, 16318 FM 306, Canyon Lake

A relaxed community car gathering at Sierra Park in Canyon Lake. Classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles line the grass while neighbors walk around, grab something cold to drink, and talk shop. This is the kind of Sunday afternoon that makes lake living what it is — no pressure, no admission fee, just people who enjoy being outdoors and sharing what they love. September in the Hill Country starts to cool off, so the late afternoon light over the park is beautiful. If you are new to Canyon Lake, show up and say hello. That is how it works here.

It is one of those uniquely Austin experiences that draws visitors from across the country. For Hill Country residents, it is an easy drive in and a fun way to spend a late summer evening. The bat emergence usually happens right around sunset, so the sky over Town Lake is lit up gold as they take flight.

Making the Most of the Rest of the Year

A few things I have learned from nearly four decades in Central Texas that might help you plan the next few months:

  • Mid-August through September is still warm, but the evenings start to shift. By late September, the weather turns and October is about as good as anyplace in the country. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, and evenings that need a light jacket.
  • Canyon Lake events bring the community together. The Cars & Coffee gatherings, the Peddle/Paddle Regatta, and the Harborfest concert are all the kind of low-key, family-friendly events that define lake living. If you are new to the area, these are your best opportunities to meet neighbors.
  • Seasonal events like Bat Fest and Levitation draw big crowds. Austin events fill up fast. Arrive early, plan for parking, and give yourself time to enjoy the city before and after.
  • The Monarch Festival is a hidden gem. It is free, family-friendly, and set in one of San Antonio's most beautiful parks. If you have kids, this is a can't-miss October weekend activity.
  • Holiday events book up early. The Wimberley Trail of Lights and Canyon Lake Parade of Lights are both free and draw good crowds. If you have family coming to town for the holidays, put these on the calendar now.
  • Make a weekend of it. Combine the Barbacoa and Big Red Festival with an afternoon on the San Antonio River Walk. Pair the Wimberley Trail of Lights with dinner on the square. Turn the Levitation festival into a full Austin music weekend.
  • Use events to explore a community you are considering. If you are thinking about a move to Canyon Lake, Wimberley, New Braunfels, San Marcos, or anywhere in the Hill Country, attending a local event tells you more about a community than any website can. You will see how people interact, what they value, and whether it feels like home.

"The Hill Country has a way of bringing people together — at car shows, at regattas, at music halls, at holiday lightings, and around backyard tables. If you are thinking about making this area home, come spend a weekend here. You will understand why people do not leave."
