Hill Country Events Guide: Summer Through the Holidays 2026
Note: This is an earlier edition published July 23, 2026. Many summer events listed here have already passed. Please see our most recent events update for the latest information.
One of the questions I hear most from people considering a move to the Hill Country is: "What is it actually like to live there?" And the best way to answer that is to look at what people do on a regular Saturday. The festivals, the markets, the live music, the holiday traditions — that is where you get a true feel for a place.
I have updated this guide through the end of 2026, because the best months in the Hill Country are still ahead of us. Late summer is warm but full of community gatherings like the Canyon Lake Farmers Market and the Wimberley Art Crawl. September and October are about as good as it gets anywhere — the heat breaks, the bright sun over the lakes is stunning, and every weekend seems to have something worth doing: the Goldrush Music Festival, Jazz'SAlive in San Antonio, the Texas Clay Festival in Gruene, and the Comal County Fair and Rodeo all pack into six weeks of prime Hill Country weather. And December in the Hill Country? A small-town Christmas in New Braunfels, Gruene, or Wimberley is something you will not forget.
This edition adds several new events I have heard about from clients and neighbors: the Canyon Lake Farmers Market, the Goldrush Music Festival, the Hot Autumn Nights Chili Cook-Off, the Dam 5K/10K, the Art on 12 Art Crawl, Jazz'SAlive, the Texas Clay Festival, the Wimberley Hometown Holidays celebration, the STARTZ Market Days, the Canyon Lake Car Show, the Mermaid SPLASH Festival, the Sacred Springs Powwow, BOO! Hole Halloween, the San Antonio Dia de los Muertos River Parade, and the Sights and Sounds of Christmas in San Marcos. I have also included San Antonio and Austin events, because so many of my clients enjoy the best of both worlds — the peace of lake or small-town living with the culture and energy of Texas' biggest cities within an easy drive.
Canyon Lake Farmers Market
The Canyon Lake Farmers Market runs every Saturday year-round at the corner of FM 306 and the Canyon Lake Community. Local farmers bring fresh produce, pastured eggs, local honey, baked goods, and handmade crafts. It is smaller and quieter than some of the bigger markets in New Braunfels or San Antonio, which is exactly what makes it feel like Canyon Lake. If you are new to the area or thinking about a move, this is the kind of Saturday morning routine that tells you everything about the community.
More DetailsWimberley Market Days
The first Saturday of every month, the Lions Club field fills with hundreds of vendor booths, live music, food, and that unmistakable Wimberley community feel. Central Texas' largest outdoor market — over 450 vendors. If you are thinking about making Wimberley home, this is the kind of event that tells you everything about the town. Relaxed, friendly, and genuinely local. Summer dates start early to beat the heat.

More DetailsA Few Things Worth Knowing
If you are new to the area or just visiting for a weekend, here are a few things that help you make the most of Hill Country events:
- Check the weather. Late summer in Central Texas is still warm. Hydrate, wear a hat, and plan for shade. By late September and October, you will want a light jacket for evening events.
- Arrive early for popular markets. Gruene Market Days, Wimberley Market Days, and the Pearl Farmers Market all draw good crowds. Getting there early means better parking and first pick of vendor goods.
- Make a day of it. Most of these events sit in walkable areas with restaurants, shops, and scenery nearby. Pair the event with lunch on a patio or a stroll through town.
- Use events to explore communities. If you are considering a move to Wimberley, Canyon Lake, New Braunfels, or anywhere in the Hill Country, attending a local event tells you more about a community than any website can.
- Holiday events book up. Wassailfest and the Gruene Town Lighting draw big crowds. Plan for parking and arrive early if you want the full experience.
- San Antonio and Austin are close. One of the best things about living in the Hill Country is that both cities are within an hour or so. You get the peace of lake or small-town living with world-class city events nearby.
"The Hill Country has a way of bringing people together — at markets, at music halls, at holiday lightings, and around backyard tables. If you are thinking about making this area home, come spend a weekend here. You will understand why people do not leave."
