Hill Country Events Update: Late August Through Late Fall 2026

Steve Giannone .
Canyon Lake at golden hour with turquoise water, limestone cliffs, live oaks, and a wooden dock

I went through the event calendars again this week and found eight new events that I had not included in our earlier guides. A few of these are shows happening this weekend at Whitewater Amphitheater, which means they are close enough to plan for right now. Others are the kind of community festivals and holiday traditions that I am glad to have fresh dates for.

This update adds events I confirmed this week that have not appeared in our earlier guides: HARDY at Whitewater Amphitheater (this Friday), Dylan Gossett & Charles Wesley Godwin at Whitewater (next Saturday), the World Heritage Festival in San Antonio, the River Revival Music Fest in New Braunfels, the Wimberley Chili Cook-Off & Music Fest, the Dia de los Muertos Festival on New Braunfels Main Plaza, the Fredericksburg Food & Wine Festival, and the Canyon Lake Noon Lions Christmas Parade. If you have been following the site, you have seen our earlier guides covering events from summer through the holidays. This edition is focused on what is newly confirmed and worth knowing about while there is still time to plan.

As always, I recommend checking official event pages before you head out, since dates and times can shift.

HARDY at Whitewater Amphitheater

August 21, 2026 7:30 PM Whitewater Amphitheater, 11860 FM 306, New Braunfels

Mississippi-born country artist HARDY brings his "Country Country" tour to the Hill Country with special guests Jake Worthington and McCoy Moore. Whitewater sits right on the Guadalupe River, minutes from Canyon Lake, and it is one of the best outdoor music venues in Texas. The covered stage and sprawling lawn mean you get a clear view of the river and the hills while the music plays. This show is tomorrow, and if you have been thinking about catching a concert here, this is a good one to start with.

Dylan Gossett & Charles Wesley Godwin at Whitewater

August 29, 2026 7:30 PM Whitewater Amphitheater, 11860 FM 306, New Braunfels

Rising star Dylan Gossett shares the bill with Charles Wesley Godwin for a Saturday night on the Guadalupe River. Gossett has been getting a lot of attention in the Texas and Americana music scene this year. The lineup also includes Max Alan opening. Late August evenings at Whitewater are warm but comfortable, and the river breezes pick up as the sun goes down. If you missed HARDY the weekend before, this is a strong second option for back-to-back weekends of live music in the Hill Country.

A multi-day celebration of San Antonio's five UNESCO World Heritage missions. Guided tours of Mission San José, Mission Concepción, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada, plus living history demonstrations, traditional Indigenous and Hispanic food, artisan vendors, and the Tour de las Misiones bike ride on September 12 connecting all five missions along the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River. These missions are among the most historically significant sites in Texas, and San Antonio is the only UNESCO World Heritage City in the state. For Hill Country residents, this is an easy drive and a reminder that world-class history and culture are right next door.

Wimberley Chili Cook-Off & Music Fest

October 10, 2026 8 AM (cook-off starts early, music through the afternoon) 110 Old Kyle Rd, Wimberley

The first annual Wimberley Chili Cook-Off & Music Fest, and it is shaping up to be the kind of community event that fits Wimberley perfectly. Local cooks compete for the best chili while live music plays through the afternoon. October in Wimberley is about as good as it gets — cool mornings, golden light through the cypress trees, and the kind of small-town community feeling that makes people fall in love with this area. If you are thinking about a move to Wimberley, this is the weekend to come see what the town is really about.

Dia de los Muertos Festival — New Braunfels

October 24, 2026 4 PM – 8 PM (typically) Main Plaza, 100 W Travis St, New Braunfels

New Braunfels celebrates Dia de los Muertos on Main Plaza with a free community festival featuring face painting, live music, traditional dance performances, food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, and an ofrenda altar space where families can honor loved ones. This is a separate event from the larger Muertos Fest in San Antonio — smaller, more intimate, and deeply rooted in the community. Main Plaza in New Braunfels is one of the most beautiful town squares in the Hill Country, and an October evening there, with the courthouse lit up and live music drifting through the oak trees, is hard to beat.

Fredericksburg Food & Wine Festival

October 21-24, 2026 Various times Downtown Fredericksburg, Main St, Fredericksburg

Over 75 Texas wineries and culinary partners gather in Fredericksburg for four days of tastings, chef demonstrations, wine seminars, and live music in the historic downtown district. Fredericksburg is the heart of Texas wine country, and this festival is the marquee event of the fall wine calendar. The drive from Canyon Lake or Wimberley to Fredericksburg takes you through some of the most beautiful Hill Country scenery in the state — especially in late October when the light is golden and the temperatures are mild. Make a weekend of it — spend Saturday at the festival and Sunday visiting a few wineries along the 290 Wine Trail.

Canyon Lake Noon Lions Christmas Parade

Early December 2026 (exact date TBD, typically first Saturday) 10 AM (typically, check closer to date) FM 2673, Downtown Sattler, Canyon Lake

An annual Canyon Lake tradition that has been running for decades. The Noon Lions Club organizes a parade down FM 2673 in downtown Sattler with antique cars, marching bands, the Alzafar Shriners, floats, and Santa Claus himself. This is small-town Christmas at its best — the kind of event where you see neighbors you have not seen all year, kids wave at every float, and the whole community lines the main road. December mornings on Canyon Lake are crisp and clear, and the parade route along FM 2673 gives you views of the lake between the buildings. If you are new to the area, this is the event to attend to feel what Canyon Lake community is really about.

Making the Most of Late Summer and Fall in the Hill Country

A few things I have learned from my decades here that might help you plan the next few months:

  • Whitewater Amphitheater shows sell well, especially weekend dates. HARDY on Friday and Dylan Gossett next Saturday are both likely to draw good crowds. Buy tickets online in advance if you can, and arrive early enough to grab dinner on the river at the venue or nearby.
  • September and October are the Hill Country's best months. The weather turns after mid-September, and October is about as good as it gets anywhere — cool mornings, warm afternoons, and evenings that need a light jacket. Perfect for outdoor festivals, river walk strolls, and patio dinners.
  • The World Heritage Festival is worth the trip to San Antonio. The San Antonio Missions are the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas, and the bike ride connecting all five missions along the Mission Reach is a unique way to see them. Free admission to most events.
  • Make a weekend of Fredericksburg for the Food & Wine Festival. Late October in Fredericksburg is beautiful, and the wineries along Highway 290 are worth visiting on their own. Book accommodations early — this festival draws visitors from across the state.
  • New Braunfels has two Dia de los Muertos options. The community festival on Main Plaza on October 24 is smaller and more intimate than the larger Muertos Fest at Hemisfair in San Antonio. You could easily do both if you have a free weekend.
  • Canyon Lake holiday traditions start early and are free. The Noon Lions Christmas Parade in December is the kind of small-town event that reminds you why lake living is special. Mark your calendar and bring the family.
  • Use events to explore a community you are considering. If you are thinking about a move to Canyon Lake, Wimberley, New Braunfels, or anywhere in the Hill Country, attending a local event tells you more about a community than any website can. You will see how people interact, what they value, and whether it feels like home.

"The Hill Country has a way of bringing people together — at music venues, at parades, at chili cook-offs, and around backyard tables. If you are thinking about making this area home, come spend a weekend here. You will understand why people do not leave."
